Review: Shadows

Shadows - Jennifer Armentrout
Genre - Young Adult Paranormal (Novella)
Released - February 20, 2012

The last thing Dawson Black expected was Bethany Williams. As a Luxen, an alien life form on Earth, human girls are…well, fun. But since the Luxen have to keep their true identities a secret, falling for one would be insane. Dangerous. Tempting. Undeniable.

Bethany can’t deny the immediate connection between her and Dawson. And even though boys aren’t a complication she wants, she can’t stay away from him. Still, whenever they lock eyes, she’s drawn in. Captivated. Lured. Loved.

Dawson is keeping a secret that will change her existence…and put her life in jeopardy. But even he can’t stop risking everything for one human girl. Or from a fate that is as unavoidable as love itself.

I will absolutely devour any book by Jennifer Armentrout, and Shadows was no exception. Shadows is the prequel to Obsidian (the first book in the Lux series). Shadows gives us insight into the relationship between Dawson, Daemon and Dee's brother, and Bethany, a human.

After finishing Obsidian, I really needed something to fill the gap until the second book came out, and Shadows did that for me. I really enjoyed meeting Dawson and Bethany, and I thought they were great characters. Since we are already aware what their fate is to be, it made their moments together a little sad.

We get to learn more about the siblings and their bond. Shadows also gives us insight into the mind of Daemon, as the story is told in third person. We quickly find out how important his family is to him and why he acts the way he does in Obsidian towards Katy. We get a few answers but are left with more questions. Considering Dawson and Bethany's narrative was unclear towards the end, I am hoping that things turn out well for them and that Jennifer Armentrout has a nice twist in store for her fans.

The romance was written well and the characters were engaging. There wasn't a whole lot of plot going on, but that's okay because the story was mainly about Dawson and Bethany's romance (which was very sweet). I think I am more in love with Daemon and I am dying to read the next book in the series! I haven't been this excited about a series in a long time!

Really, I can't say much more about Shadows without ruining Obsidian for you. If you haven't picked up this exciting new series already, what are you waiting for?

  1. That's the thing I hate about trying to review anything than a first book, it will give away all all the good bits! UGH!
There are details, great details to talk about and you can't!

Happy you didn't ruin it thought, I have Obsidian on my 'to read' list.

    1. It's the love-hate relationship between the two main characters that makes this book such a great read!
